Rebecca R. Murray, APRN, MSN, FNP, CDE
Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing, Yale University, New Haven, CT
Clinical Director, CT Holistic and Integrative Medicine, Groton, CT
Founder and Lecturer, Health Quest International, Norwich, CT
Rebecca Murray is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Diabetes Specialist with an integrative medicine practice in Connecticut. She completed her degree at Columbia University and went on to practice in the area of acute and critical care medicine. After years of dealing with the ravages of “accelerated aging” as demonstrated by early myocardial infarction, stroke, amputation of extremities, and kidney failure due to uncontrolled diabetes, she decided to change the focus of her professional career to that of preventative and integrative medicine. She furthered her education by obtaining a Masters Degree in Primary Health Care from the University of Rhode Island and has done post-graduate work in pharmacology, diabetes care, functional medicine, and anti-aging medicine. In 1996, as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at Yale University, she became involved with the Yale Pediatric Endocrine Clinic, which was receiving an overwhelming number of referrals for obesity, pre-diabetes, and new onset Type 2 diabetes (thought not to occur in children). Her new passion became a focus on the genetic and environmental factors that were mainly responsible to this “new epidemic” of obesity and Metabolic/Insulin Resistance Syndrome. She founded Health Quest International, focused on providing care to children internationally, and also lectured nationally on the topic of early identification of Insulin Resistance Syndrome in children and young adults and the need for nutritional interventions. In 2001, she founded CT Holistic and Integrative Medicine with colleague Jordan Goetz, M.D. in Groton, CT. She now serves as Clinical Director for the practice, which specializes in prevention and treatment of diabetes, weight management through underlying factors that contribute to weight loss resistance, bio-identical hormonal balancing, and targeted amino acid therapy for neurotransmitter dysregulation. Over the past few years, she as also focused on the “physiologic basis” of risk factors for the development of cancers. She now includes, in her practice, the evaluation of genetic markers associated with alterations in metabolism and detoxification and utilizes these results to implement individualized therapeutic treatment plans to REDUCE the risk of developing cancer, especially those cancers associated with “estrogen metabolism”.

Henry E. Young, Ph.D.
Professor of Anatomy, Division of Basic Medical Sciences, Mercer University School of Medicine, Macon, GA
Henry E. Young, Ph.D., is one of the original pioneers in the discovery and use of non-hematopoietic adult-derived stem cells. He began his career in the 1970’s identifying quiescent adult stem cells and their roles in terrestrial salamander limb regeneration. He has since gone on to develop techniques and methodologies for single cell serial dilution clonogenic analysis for the isolation, cultivation, cryopreservation, and characterization of adult-derived germ layer lineage mesodermal stem cells, adult-derived pluripotent stem cells, and most recently, adult-derived totipotent stem cells. Not stopping there, he developed techniques to mobilize and quickly isolate autologous stem cells from peripheral blood. He has either manipulated the adult stem cells in situ (humans) or used isolated purified fractions of mammalian adult stem cells for treatments across all three developmental germ layer lineages, i.e., cessation of mental decline in human Parkinson volunteers and generation of neurons and glial cells in the adult rat cerebral cortices (ectodermal lineage); treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, stroke, and myocardial infarction in animal models (mesodermal lineage); and developed methods to treat COPD volunteers (humans), regenerate lung lining tissue in animals, as well as methods to increase pancreatic islets numbers and the formation of artificial pancreatic islet organoids for the treatment of type-I diabetes in animal models (endodermal lineage). He has also developed methodologies to expand adult stem cells for FDA-approved human transplants. In 2005 he was given the honorary title of MD, so that he could be honored with the Humanism in Medicine Award for his devotion to compassionate care.
