Dr. Gayan Poovendran specializes in primary care sports medicine and regenerative medicine. He has extensive experience in the non-surgical treatment of sports and activity-related injuries as well as working with patients to prevent injury, improve athletic performance, and enhance overall health. Dr. Poovendran is a dual board-certified physician in sports medicine and family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. His passion for regenerative medicine led him to seek additional educational opportunities, accruing hundreds of hours of continuing medical education and hands-on teaching from worldwide leaders in the field.  He has experience with athletes of all levels including Ohio University’s football team, the National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets, Denison University’s football, lacrosse, basketball, and track & field teams (in Granville, Ohio). He has also treated numerous athletes from USA Track and Field, NFL, NBA and MLB.  Previously to USA Sports Dr. Poovendran practiced in Fort Lauderdale from 2015-2021, specializing in regenerative medicine and non-surgical orthopedics. He also served as the team physician for Calvary Christian Academy and Cardinal Gibbons High School, both in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Poovendran has co-published magazine articles and lectured on topics related to athlete wellness; including concussions, neurological disorders, testosterone supplementation, and regenerative medicine topics. He completed his residency training in family medicine and a fellowship in sports medicine at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Poovendran enjoys an active lifestyle of working out, playing golf, basketball, tennis, and traveling. Being active himself, he understands his patients’ desires to return to activity as quickly as possible.
